On the eve of upcoming state and federal elections, community resistance against urban development in the Perth Hills has forged an unusual alliance among various political parties. Politicians from the Labor, Liberal, Greens, and Nationals have rallied together to oppose a proposed housing development by the Satterley property group on land owned by the Anglican Church in North Stoneville.

Debra Bishop, a representative from the Save Perth Hills community group, has been vocal in her opposition to the development, highlighting significant environmental concerns. She warns of perilous bushfire risks, environmental degradation, the destruction of habitat for endangered black cockatoos, and the potential loss of 60,000 trees on the proposed site.

The movement against this development spans over three decades and has galvanised thousands of locals, who recently attended a rally to express their discontent. Protestor Cleo Williams conveyed a powerful message to attending politicians, urging them to authentically represent the community’s interests, asserting that “we are not just ballots in a box.”

As the situation unfolds, the Satterley group has been approached for their viewpoint on the matter.
