Eels coach Jason Ryles has acknowledged that the decision regarding Dylan Brown’s future at the club lies with the player himself. Although the Eels No.6 is under contract until 2031, he has player options that become available next year. In January, Brown’s manager, Chris Orr, communicated with other clubs, expressing that Brown is open to offers. The Eels have also declined a request from Brown’s management to buy out the first get-out clause in his contract.

Ryles stated he hopes for a resolution to the ongoing contract situation “sooner rather than later.” He recognised Brown’s entitlement to make his own choice and emphasised the club’s commitment to creating a supportive environment for the player. Ryles expressed confidence in Brown’s performance, asserting the club’s belief in him, evidenced by the long-term deal offered.

Despite missing a pre-season match against the Tigers to attend his brother’s wedding in New Zealand, Brown still has until round 10 to activate his option. The Eels’ regular season kicks off against the Storm in Melbourne on March 9. The club is eager to clarify Brown’s position as they continue preparations for the upcoming season.
