Australia’s leading schools have seen a sharp rise in fees, with three institutions expected to charge over $50,000 for Year 12 in 2025. According to Edstart’s latest annual report, which examines fees across 902 non-government schools, the average costs have increased by 6.03 per cent this year.
The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) reports the highest median fees at $17,216. Despite Victoria having the priciest school overall, New South Wales (NSW) claims the majority of the top ten most expensive schools, with eight Sydney schools listed. In 2025, the median fee for non-government schools in NSW stands at $9,315, ranking as the third highest in Australia.
Out of the ten most costly schools, half are all-boys institutions, while three offer co-educational options and two are all-girls schools. This data sheds light on the increasing financial burden associated with elite schooling in Australia. Prospective parents may wish to consider the costs carefully when evaluating educational options for their children.
