Witnesses recounted a frightening incident in Port Melbourne last night, where an erratic driver mounted a footpath and collided with a pedestrian. Police responded to multiple calls for help at around 7.10 pm near Esplanade East and Rouse Street. Eyewitness footage revealed a stolen vehicle speeding along the footpath before fleeing the scene.
Investigation through CCTV indicated that a man was struck but fortunately suffered only minor injuries, as he walked away alongside a woman prior to police arrival. Neither individual has yet contacted law enforcement.
One witness described the chaotic moment, recalling, “I was just sitting on my lounge, watching a bit of TV when I heard a massive bang,” leading him to observe the unfolding situation from his balcony. He noted the near miss with pedestrians, expressing relief that there weren’t more people around.
Authorities are treating the incident as a targeted attack, suggesting the individuals involved were acquainted. The driver remains at large, though police located the abandoned vehicle shortly thereafter in Tom Hills Court. The situation has raised serious concerns about pedestrian safety and reckless driving in the area.
