Commuters on Auckland’s Northwestern Motorway in New Zealand demonstrated remarkable bravery when they intervened to stop a runaway car after its driver experienced a medical emergency. The incident occurred around 8:18 am on Tuesday and was captured on dashcam footage, revealing the white Toyota hatchback swerving dangerously across multiple lanes.
Observing the car’s erratic movements, several tradesmen sprinted towards the vehicle to help avert a potential disaster. These Good Samaritans attempted to alert the driver while one person even climbed through the window to control the steering. Jeff Benjamin, one of the heroes involved, later revealed that the driver had suffered a seizure during the episode and shared video of the dramatic rescue online.
Benjamin explained that they managed to pull the driver from the car when he appeared to stop breathing, but he endured another seizure. They worked together to contain him safely, preventing him from rolling onto the road. Acknowledging the vital support from his workmates, Benjamin emphasised the importance of teamwork in such critical moments. Fortunately, the driver was taken to hospital and is reported to be in stable condition following the incident.
