LeBron James has ended his impressive 20-year streak of participating in the NBA All-Star Game due to ongoing injuries. Just 90 minutes before Monday’s (AEDT) event, the all-time scoring leader for the league announced he would not play, highlighting persistent foot and ankle problems.

This season, James has frequently appeared on the Los Angeles Lakers’ injury reports, and he expressed disappointment about having to withdraw, stating, “I hate that.” He noted that despite hoping for improvement in his condition, he needed to prioritise his health as the Lakers aim for a playoff push in the competitive Western Conference.

For the first time since 2004, the All-Star Game proceeded without him, marking a significant milestone in his career. Although he was set to play for Shaquille O’Neal’s team in this year’s newly formatted competition, he was not replaced on the roster, leaving the team short-handed with seven players.

James plans to return to Los Angeles to continue his rehabilitation, emphasising his commitment to recovery. He remains hopeful about returning to action soon, aiming to be ready for the Lakers’ game later in the week.
