A man and two women have been charged following an alleged unprovoked attack on three police officers in Brisbane, which resulted in the officers being hospitalised. The incident occurred around 4am near the intersection of Brunswick and Wickham Streets in Fortitude Valley, where the officers—a 30-year-old sergeant, a 56-year-old senior constable, and a 30-year-old female constable—were investigating a disturbance at a nearby establishment.
While engaging with individuals related to the disturbance, the trio, who were uninvolved, purportedly assaulted the officers, prompting the need for additional police assistance. After sustaining injuries, the officers were taken to hospital for treatment.
The 23-year-old male, a Caboolture resident, has been charged with two counts of serious assault on a police officer, affray in a public place while under the influence, and obstructing a police officer. He is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court later today.
The two women, aged 18 and 19, from Torquay and Seven Hills respectively, have also been charged with two counts of serious assault on a police officer. The older woman is slated to appear in court today, while the younger one is scheduled for a court appearance on February 26.
