Two American women, Summer Layman, 24, and Rileigh Decker, 20, are recovering from serious injuries sustained in a shark attack while swimming in The Bahamas. Speaking to CNN, Decker described the extent of her injuries, including a severed Achilles tendon and major damage to her leg. The friends were enjoying a trip to Bimini Bay when they impulsively decided to jump into the water. Despite initially seeing no sharks, Decker was bitten shortly afterward.

With swift assistance from their friend, who helped them out of the water, both women managed to apply a makeshift tourniquet using rope. Layman later realised her own foot was severely injured, yet they remained calm during their ordeal, which involved being transported for medical treatment on the island before returning to Florida for more extensive care. Layman received multiple stitches and is awaiting a potential skin graft, while Decker has undergone two surgeries and requires further operations.

Despite their injuries, both women expressed gratitude for their survival, acknowledging how fortunate they were to avoid worse outcomes. While shark attacks are rare in the Bahamas, this incident marks the third involving American tourists this year, highlighting the unexpected dangers that can arise during seemingly innocent activities.
