An investigation is currently underway following a collision between a V/Line train and a truck on the Princes Highway near Kilmany, Victoria, this morning. The accident occurred around 10:10am when a trailer carrying an excavator collided with the train, which was transporting approximately 50 passengers. Thankfully, both the train and truck drivers emerged without serious injuries, and the majority of the passengers remained unharmed.
Paramedics attended to six individuals at the scene, though none required hospitalisation. The train, which had departed from Southern Cross Station in Melbourne and was bound for Bairnsdale, was evacuated, and passengers were provided with coaches to continue their journey.
The cause of the incident is still being investigated, and authorities have urged anyone with dashcam footage to come forward. Meanwhile, train services between Traralgon and Bairnsdale will be replaced by coaches for several hours as repairs and assessments are conducted.
V/Line’s CEO, Matt Carrick, expressed gratitude towards passengers for their patience while ensuring their safety during the incident. The National Rail Safety Regulator and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau have been notified, and crews are ready to address any damage to the train and railway infrastructure.
