Police are probing a series of car thefts in Melbourne, believed to be linked to the same group of youths responsible for six incidents overnight. The crime spree began with a Toyota Corolla being carjacked outside a McDonald’s in Frankston, later discovered abandoned with the keys still inside. CCTV footage captured the gang during two home invasions—one in Caulfield South and another in Beaumaris—where they invaded homes while the residents were asleep.
In Caulfield South, the group entered at about 4.20 am, stealing car keys and driving off with a BMW X5 and a Ford Ranger. Homeowner Darren Brits expressed relief that no confrontations occurred, describing the situation as “heartbreaking.” Shortly after, in Beaumaris, the thieves accessed the house through a doggy door, cutting a lock to gain entry. They made off with valuables, including wallets and car keys, and stole a Mazda MX5, Audi Q5, and BMW X3.
Anthony Benzoni, the Beaumaris homeowner who was at the gym during the incident, reflected on the brazenness of the crime and the lack of consequences for offenders. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information or footage to contact Crime Stoppers.
