Emiliano Grillo created a party atmosphere at the Phoenix Open by scoring an ace on the iconic 16th hole during the second round. His impressive shot from 155 yards flew straight into the cup, prompting cheers and a beer shower from the exuberant crowd gathered on the par 3’s party barge.
Describing the moment, Grillo expressed his disbelief, saying, “It was perfect. Perfect number, just a full shot, pitching wedge.” He admitted there was a slight delay in realising the ball had gone in, as visibility from that distance was limited.
As joy erupted around him, Grillo shared celebratory gestures with fellow golfer Rafael Campos and high-fived fans at the tee. The excited spectators showered the area with drinks, leading to a significant cleanup by tournament officials, who had to pause play to address the debris.
This ace marked the 12th in the history of the Phoenix Open’s 16th hole and the first since 2022. The 16th hole is renowned for its festive atmosphere, famously ignited by Tiger Woods’ memorable hole-in-one in 1997, which solidified the site’s status as a party central on the PGA Tour.
