Sean “Diddy” Combs faces serious allegations of sexual crimes and violence against women, with an indictment detailing his purported use of coercion and intimidation to maintain control over his victims. After listening to the charges with little visible emotion, Combs pleaded not guilty, while prosecutors labelled him a danger to society, advocating for his detention without bail. Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily Johnson characterised him as a “serial abuser,” asserting that he exploited his business resources to commit and conceal his offences, including witness intimidation and bribery.
The indictment outlines a range of abusive behaviours, including physically assaulting women and engaging in drug-fuelled sexual acts referred to as “Freak Offs.” Furthermore, it mentions an incident involving Combs’s former partner, R&B singer Cassie, depicting his violent tendencies.
Prosecutors have interviewed over 50 victims and witnesses and intend to present a wealth of evidence, including electronic data and recordings from the alleged events. Meanwhile, Combs’s legal team is advocating for his release on a substantial bond, suggesting home detention as an alternative to imprisonment.
Combs, 54, was arrested after federal authorities raided his properties in connection with a sex trafficking investigation. If convicted on all charges, he could face a minimum sentence of 15 years, potentially extending to life. His defence maintains his innocence, while his family showed support by attending the court proceedings.
