Adam Hunter, a former West Coast Eagles AFL player, has tragically passed away at the age of 43. He was discovered at a residence south of Perth on Wednesday morning. Hunter, who played for the Eagles from 2000 to 2009, participated in 151 matches and played a crucial role in the team’s 2006 premiership victory.
Drafted in 1999, he made a notable debut in the 2000 season and quickly became a key player by 2005. Hunter’s performance was particularly memorable during the finals series in 2006, where he not only scored 11 goals but also kicked the final goal in the grand final, a pivotal moment recognised by the team’s head of football, John Worsfold.
Hunter’s legacy is marked by his dedication and love for the game, with Worsfold highlighting his commitment to his teammates and the sport itself. After dealing with significant injuries, he retired in 2009, yet his involvement in football remained steadfast, as he continued training with local clubs.
In a gesture of remembrance, West Coast players donned black armbands and held a moment of silence during training on Wednesday. Hunter’s passing comes shortly after the deaths of other former players, including Troy Selwood and Dale Tapping, intensifying the wave of grief in the Australian football community.
