Nicho Hynes has expressed indifference about not being included in a NSW Blues meet-and-greet, stating his focus remains on making the Sharks a formidable title contender this season instead of regaining his state jersey. He noted that NSW coach Laurie Daley had not reached out to him regarding the exclusion, which involved other prominent players discussing the upcoming series.
Hynes clarified, “I just want to let my footy do the talking this year.” He emphasised his contentment and commitment to the Sharks’ success, mentioning that if opportunities arise from his performance, he will embrace them. He acknowledged that it is outside his control whether he’s selected for the Blues.
Daley downplayed any assumptions about the meet-and-greet indicating reduced chances for uninvited players, stating that selections are not finalised and performances could still lead to spots on the team. Hynes previously faced challenges in his Origin career, receiving limited game time and criticism for pivotal moments in the series. Despite this, he remains optimistic and prioritises his commitment to the Sharks over potential state selection. Notably, Hynes was not named in the Sharks’ upcoming pre-season match against the Warriors, as the coach opted to provide younger players with experience.
