A tragic accident in northern New South Wales has claimed the life of a 14-year-old boy following a severe three-vehicle collision. The incident occurred around 3pm on the Kamilaroi Highway, approximately 10 kilometres east of Wee Waa, while the boy was travelling in a light rigid horse truck that was towing a caravan.

An unrelated man who witnessed the crash rushed to provide first aid to the boy, but despite the efforts of paramedics, the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the horse truck, a 38-year-old man, was taken to hospital in stable condition for treatment and mandatory drug testing.

In a heartbreaking twist, one horse involved in the collision had to be euthanised due to its injuries, while three other horses were treated for their wounds. Fortunately, the male drivers of the other vehicles involved in the accident—a tractor and a semi-trailer—emerged unscathed and complied with mandatory testing.

Local authorities quickly established a crime scene, and crash investigators have since commenced inquiries into the incident. Police are particularly keen to speak with the man who provided assistance at the scene, believing he may hold crucial information that could aid their investigation.

This unfortunate event highlights the unpredictable nature of road safety and the tragic outcomes that can arise from accidents. Investigators are urging anyone with information related to the crash to come forward to help piece together the circumstances surrounding the boy’s untimely death.
