Angus Crichton, the standout back-rower from the Sydney Roosters, has made it clear that he is not seeking to attract interest from rival NRL clubs or the emerging R360 competition. Under contract with the Roosters until the end of 2026, Crichton becomes a free agent on November 1, raising speculation about potential moves, particularly from the new Perth Bears franchise, which has reportedly shown interest in solidifying its squad.
During a recent interview on Nine’s ‘Wide World of Sports’, Crichton asserted his commitment to the Roosters, stating, “I’m just so focused on playing footy for the Roosters.” He emphasised his long-term goal is to uphold his performance for the team rather than entertain talk of relocation. Since joining the Roosters from cross-town rivals South Sydney in late 2017, Crichton has established himself as an integral part of the club.
Although speculation about a code switch to rugby union lingers due to Crichton’s impressive schoolboy union background, he believes there is still much to consider before any transition happens. He acknowledged the heavy financial offers from the rival competition, estimated to be around $1.5 to $2 million, but described the current situation as merely whispers.
The discussion surrounding player movement has also included mentions of Zac Lomax, a NSW representative whose name has emerged in connection to the new rugby union competition. Despite being under contract with Parramatta until 2026, Lomax is reportedly contemplating his options if the new league becomes a reality, with a potential offer exceeding $1.8 million on the table for a code switch.
Crichton’s singular focus remains on playing for the Roosters and fulfilling his role in the upcoming NRL season, as he dismisses the distractions of potential future moves.
