Authorities in Adelaide’s western suburbs are looking into a suspicious car fire that occurred at a unit complex on Marion Road in Brooklyn Park. Emergency services responded just before 9pm last night after locals reported smoke and flames threatening nearby homes.
Residents, alarmed by the strong smell of smoke and the sight of the fire, quickly called Triple Zero for help. One nearby resident expressed concern, noting, “I was a bit scared because it was so close to our house, but first thing I did was tell Mum.”
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire; however, the Nissan SUV was severely damaged. Investigations reveal that the vehicle was reported as stolen from a nearby home in Underdale just hours before the incident.
Local inhabitants shared their apprehensions over safety, noting that similar events have occurred in the area in recent years. One resident lamented for the vehicle’s owner, stating, “There goes a bit of money, hard-earned cash down the drain,” while another recalled multiple incidents of car fires since their arrival in the neighbourhood. In fact, a car had previously been set ablaze in the same carport earlier this year.
Residents are increasingly concerned about their safety, with one remarking, “It’s been ongoing, so I’m starting to feel not as safe anymore.” The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding last night’s fire.
