A 35-year-old man from Queensland faces charges for allegedly attempting to arrange a meeting for sexual activities with someone he believed to be a child under 16. Police reported that he initiated contact through social media, unaware that the supposed child was actually an undercover officer.

Earlier this week, police executed a search warrant at the man’s residence in Buccan, confiscating several electronic devices in the process. He has been charged with using the internet to procure a minor for sexual purposes and has been released on strict bail conditions. A court appearance is scheduled for September 10 at Beenleigh Magistrates Court.

Detective Acting Inspector Cameron Burke of Queensland Police stressed the importance of addressing the dangers that online predators pose to children. He emphasised that it’s essential for parents and guardians to understand the apps and platforms their children are using, and to supervise their online interactions closely. Burke urged anyone who witnesses suspicious or inappropriate behaviour towards children online to report it immediately, asserting that the safety of children remains the top priority.
