South Australia’s export sector is experiencing remarkable growth, presenting significant opportunities for local businesses. Among those thriving in this booming market is the renowned bootmaker RM Williams, headquartered in Salisbury, North Adelaide. The company has reported a notable rise in international demand for its products, which has led to a surge in exports.
Kristin Mumme, head of operations at RM Williams, revealed that in just the past six months, they have shipped around 350 pallets overseas. Moreover, the company has recently expanded its presence in the UK, having doubled its retail locations there to four stores. This expansion has coincided with an increase in orders from major British department stores.
The export growth is not limited to the fashion industry; South Australia’s food and wine sectors are also reaping the benefits of heightened global demand. According to state government statistics, exports have surged by 60 per cent compared to the lows experienced during the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2022.
This increase in exports is expected to stimulate further travel opportunities as well. Airlines are more likely to service routes to and from Adelaide if their cargo holds are filled, leading to a more robust transportation network. Trade Minister Joe Szakacs noted that these local products reassure airlines of a steady freight supply, encouraging them to establish flights into South Australia. This, in turn, contributes to economic growth and further enhances the export market.
Overall, the rising demand for South Australian goods is not only beneficial for local businesses like RM Williams but is also poised to bolster the state’s economy significantly.
