A high-end bar and restaurant in Adelaide, known as Sora on Pirie, has recently implemented a new entry policy restricting access to patrons aged 21 and over after 9.30 PM. This announcement was made via a post on the venue’s Facebook page, prompting a variety of reactions from the public.

While the new age restriction aims to create a more sophisticated atmosphere, the establishment clarified that younger guests might still gain entry during special events at the discretion of the organisers. In addition to the age limit, Sora on Pirie is enforcing a smart casual dress code. This policy prohibits activewear, sports jerseys, denim cut-offs, thongs, flip-flops, and unkempt footwear, while allowing for hoodies and torn jeans if they meet the approval of door staff.

The venue’s decision has come under scrutiny since age is considered a protected category under Australian anti-discrimination laws related to the provision of goods and services, which typically includes restaurants. However, Sora maintains that this policy aligns with their operational hours; dinner service runs from Wednesday to Saturday between 5 PM and 9.30 PM, precisely when the age limitation takes effect.

Public response to the announcement has been largely positive, with many expressing support for the new entry guidelines. This suggests that the strategic move to cultivate a more upscale environment has resonated well with the community.

Sora has yet to provide further comments on this matter following the announcement.
