In a significant incident in south Brisbane this morning, a train carrying 300 passengers collided with a semi-trailer that was stationary on the tracks at Bonemill Road, Runcorn. The emergency services responded promptly, arriving just after 6:58 AM. Fortunately, the driver of the truck was not present during the accident.
Initial investigations suggest that the truck had been left on the tracks due to a mechanical failure. The train’s driver was evaluated at the scene and reported to have no injuries, although one passenger in their 30s experienced back pain as a result of the crash. Fortunately, Queensland Ambulance reported that both the train driver and the affected passenger declined further medical attention.
The collision resulted in no additional injuries among the remaining passengers, but it did cause considerable disruptions to train services on the Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines. Translink indicated that delays reached up to one hour during peak travel times due to the incident. By approximately 11:30 AM, train operations were restored to their regular schedule.
Officials continue to assess the situation to ensure the safety of all transport operations in the area following the accident.
