A search operation is currently underway for a missing fisherman in the waters south of Sydney. The 35-year-old man departed solo from a boat ramp on Port Hacking Road in Dolans Bay around 9am yesterday but failed to return as expected.
He was reported missing by family members at 7pm last night, prompting a search that uncovered his six-metre boat abandoned near Port Kembla in the Illawarra region shortly after midnight. Despite efforts, there were no signs of the fisherman.
This morning, the search resumed at 8am, involving water police, marine rescue teams, and NSW surf lifesavers actively combing the coastline for any clues. Additionally, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) reported the deployment of four helicopters to aid in the aerial search, covering the area between Port Kembla and Jervis Bay. AMSA is leading the aerial operations, while the NSW Police Force Marine Area Command oversees the search at sea.
The situation remains critical as rescuers strive to locate the missing individual.
