A young woman named Samantha Fielder, aged 21, tragically lost her life in a car accident on Emu Park Road in Nankin, Queensland, this past Sunday afternoon. Her grieving mother, Lisa Pobjoy, expressed her profound sorrow, describing Samantha as “the light in every room” and “the soul of our family.” Pobjoy explained that the loss was “unimaginable” and articulated the deep heartbreak she feels, noting that no words could adequately convey her emotions.

Lisa further paid tribute to Samantha on a crowdfunding page, stating, “Samantha was so much more than a name.” She described her daughter as the source of joy and laughter in their lives, the one who brought strength to their family, particularly during challenging times. Expressing the shock of losing someone so vibrant and full of life at such a young age, she lamented, “No one ever expects to say goodbye this soon.” In a heartfelt message, she concluded, “Rest in peace, our beautiful angel. You will forever be missed and loved beyond words.”

The community has come together to honour Samantha’s memory, with many individuals leaving flowers and heartfelt notes at the crash site as tributes.

According to local police reports, Samantha was driving a Mazda when it collided with a Nissan Patrol travelling in the opposite direction, close to Thompson Point Road. She succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while her male passenger was transported to Rockhampton Hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening. The driver and male passenger of the Nissan, both in their 20s, were also taken to the same hospital with non-life-threatening conditions.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing. This year alone, Queensland roads have seen a staggering 174 fatalities.
