Former Queensland Premier Steven Miles showcased his powerlifting prowess at the CAPO Nationals Powerlifting competition held in Brisbane over the weekend. As the leader of the Queensland Labor Party, Miles participated alongside a large number of competitors in a three-lift event that included push-pull categories, bench press, and deadlifts.

Impressively, Miles lifted a total of 462.5 kilograms, achieving personal bests with a 195-kilogram deadlift, 157.5-kilogram squat, and a 110-kilogram bench press. He shared his experiences on Instagram following the event, posting a compilation video and expressing his satisfaction with hitting new PBs.

In his post, he commented, “Spotted at the Nationals Powerlifting Comp – nothing like lifting heavy to stay fit and keep a clear head,” adding that he looks forward to continuing to improve. This event was not a first for Miles; he had previously competed in the Queensland State Powerlifting Championship in April.

Despite his impressive lifts, Miles did not qualify for the next level of competition, which is the WPC World Championships scheduled to take place in Durban, South Africa.

Miles served as Queensland’s Premier from 2023 to 2024, succeeding Annastacia Palaszczuk. However, his leadership was short-lived as he faced a defeat in the last Queensland State Election against the Liberal National Party, led by David Crisafulli, who secured a majority win.
