In Victoria, Eathon White, a truck driver and father of three, has swapped his ute for his trusty 23-year-old stallion, Fox, as a means to save on petrol costs, which currently stand at around $180 weekly. This unconventional choice has garnered attention, particularly when Eathon was seen riding through a local BottleMart drive-through in Moe.

“We visited Kmart for hair ties and Blu-Tack, and everyone rushed out in surprise to see a horse,” Eathon recounted, describing the joy his horse brings not only to him but also to onlookers.

For Eathon, riding Fox for errands is not just about cost-saving; it’s also a chance to engage with the community. “It costs me nothing to ride him, and it brings smiles to people’s faces. Unlike when driving, no one stops to say hello from a car,” he remarked.

Madie Kelly, a staff member at a nearby service station, documented the unique sighting of Eathon and Fox, stating, “It’s the most Australian thing you’ll ever see. Someone should definitely turn this into a punchline—like a horse pulling up to BottleMart!”

Although Fox’s competitive days in polo-cross are behind him, Eathon envisions a bright future for the duo as they explore more drive-throughs together. He even mentioned plans for his daughter and niece to enjoy the experience by riding through McDonald’s.

Eathon expressed his belief that technology has hindered children’s sense of adventure, making them more anxious and detached. “Getting kids on a horse can reignite their desire to spend time outdoors,” he said.

Thus, Eathon White’s decision to ride his horse for errands serves as a creative solution to rising fuel prices while also fostering community interaction and promoting outdoor activities for children.
