Travel disruptions have surged at Brisbane Airport’s domestic terminal due to a malfunctioning metal detector, resulting in significant delays for flights and passengers alike. A “technical fault” with one of the metal detectors prompted airport officials to implement a comprehensive re-screening of all passengers and staff within the terminal.

Brisbane Airport released a statement asserting that the issue was swiftly identified and confirmed there was no safety or security risk. However, they acknowledged that the necessary re-screening process would take time, leading to further delays for affected flights. The airport management extended their apologies to travellers for the inconvenience and expressed gratitude for their patience during the ordeal.

Pictures taken at the airport depict extensive queues stretching from the terminal to the entrance, highlighting the frustration experienced by those waiting. Several flights operated by Qantas and Jetstar faced delays, with at least five being directly impacted, and one Jetstar flight ultimately being cancelled. It was noted that the international terminal remained unaffected by the incident.

The situation remains dynamic, and airport officials continue to work towards resolving the backlog and restoring normal operations.
