Two individuals are currently in intensive care following a severe car accident in south-east Perth last night. The incident occurred just after midnight on Southern River Road in Gosnells when the driver, a 24-year-old man, reportedly lost control of the Toyota Land Cruiser, resulting in the vehicle flipping onto its side and becoming lodged against a tree and a power pole.
The accident had significant repercussions beyond the immediate injuries, as it caused a power outage that affected over 200 homes for more than 12 hours. Local residents were quick to respond upon hearing the crash, with one neighbour, Manu Nebe, recounting how he and others immediately called for emergency assistance. They became concerned after witnessing the vehicle hit a power pole after veering over the median strip.
Upon arrival, emergency services found the pair trapped inside the wreck. Witnesses noted that the 25-year-old female passenger was distressed and calling for help, leading one neighbour to stay by her side and offer reassurance until assistance arrived. Both victims have since been transported to Royal Perth Hospital, where their conditions are being treated in intensive care.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine how the driver lost control of the vehicle. The incident not only highlights the dangers of road travel but also the responsiveness of the local community in times of crisis.
