Details have emerged regarding the tragic death of a suspected gang associate, Athan Boursinos, who was shot in a Melbourne laneway. The 21-year-old was killed in broad daylight on his way to court, facing multiple charges including drug-related offences.
Witnesses reported that Boursinos had just exited his BMW and audibly challenged his assailant before being shot in the head. The attack unfolded in quick succession, with at least eight shots fired in total. Nearby resident Tanco Taneski described hearing the gunfire followed by sounds of distress, likely from Boursinos’ father, who arrived at the scene shortly after the incident.
Boursinos, the son of a former police sergeant, was under scrutiny for his alleged involvement in the shooting of notorious gang figure Sam “The Punisher” Abdulrahim earlier this year. Despite his troubled past, family members have asserted that Boursinos was on a path to redemption, having embraced faith and expressed intentions to address his legal challenges.
His brother fondly remembered him as courageous and compassionate, while Boursinos’ fiancée conveyed her deep sorrow on social media, emphasising her unwavering love and admiration for him. In the wake of his death, she reflected on the loss, expressing a hope for reunion in the future.
Police are investigating the case and have not confirmed the connection between Boursinos’ murder and a burnt-out four-wheel drive found nearby, which may have been used in the getaway. Another vehicle, a Ford ute, was also set ablaze in proximity to the crime scene, although this incident does not appear to be linked to Boursinos’ death.
As investigations continue, the community grapples with the shock of this violent act, raising questions about ongoing issues related to gang violence in the region.
