A 44-year-old man has been charged with high-range drink driving after crashing his van and damaging several parked vehicles in Sydney’s south. According to police reports, the driver was allegedly more than three times over the legal alcohol limit when he lost control of the vehicle on Lister Avenue, resulting in the van overturning. Eyewitnesses noted that when emergency services arrived just after 1 am, the man was seen upright inside the wrecked vehicle.
Emergency crews worked to extricate him, and he walked away from the scene unharmed. The incident has left local residents, like father Adel Razaq, in shock; Razaq discovered that his car was completely wrecked and expressed his frustration, particularly as he and his pregnant wife now face the challenge of finding a replacement vehicle.
Razaq questioned how someone could drive in such a reckless manner, highlighting the broader impact of irresponsible behaviour on the community. The accused driver was taken to St George police station following the incident, where his driving licence was suspended. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 30.
