A serious accident on a major Melbourne freeway has left one person in critical condition and resulted in road closures. The incident occurred in Southbank around 12:05 PM, prompting Ambulance Victoria to transport the injured individual to a hospital, while three other people are currently receiving assessments.
In response to the crash, all inbound lanes of the West Gate Freeway have been shut down between the West Gate Bridge and the Burnley Tunnel. Motorists travelling towards the city are being redirected off the freeway at Todd Road, which will guide them through Port Melbourne. Additionally, entry ramps from the Bolte Bridge and Montague Street are also closed. However, the Kings Way entry to the Burnley Tunnel remains operational.
Drivers seeking alternative routes can consider several detours, including Kings Way and Toorak Road, or other options like Queens Road, Dandenong Road, and Warrigal Road. Additional bypass routes include Montague Street, City Road, Alexandra Avenue, Olympic Boulevard, and Batman Avenue.
Motorists are advised to plan their journeys carefully and allow extra time due to the ongoing disruptions.
