An investigation has been launched following the death of a man at the Brisbane City Watchhouse, just three days after his arrest. The 41-year-old individual from Zillmere was taken into custody on July 16 at a residence in Morningside due to an outstanding warrant and subsequently transported to the watchhouse.

Tragically, by 5pm on July 19, the man was found unresponsive. According to police reports, both watchhouse and nursing staff attempted to administer first aid until emergency services arrived at the scene. Unfortunately, he was declared deceased approximately one hour later.

The Ethical Standards Command is currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, working under the direction of the state coroner and with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission. The inquiry aims to establish the cause of death and ensure that all procedures were properly followed during his time in custody.
