A tragic accident in western Sydney has led to the death of a motorcyclist following a collision with a police car early this morning. The incident occurred shortly before 2am on the M4 motorway near Church Street in Parramatta.

The motorcyclist was travelling east when he collided with a white sedan, causing him to be thrown onto the roadway. Shortly afterwards, a marked police vehicle also struck the rider. Emergency services, including police and paramedics, arrived on the scene and initiated CPR before transporting him to hospital. Sadly, attempts to revive him were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead. As of now, his identity has not been confirmed.

Both the driver of the sedan and a senior constable from the police force were taken to hospital for mandatory testing. Meanwhile, an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is currently underway. According to NSW Police, the police car was not on urgent duty at the time of the incident and was not operating with lights or sirens activated.

Authorities have stated that there had been no previous interaction or pursuit of the motorcyclist by the police vehicle prior to the crash. Initial reports indicate that the officers involved were returning to the station when the collision took place.

The aftermath of the accident has led to significant traffic disruptions, with all citybound lanes of the M4 closed between Cumberland Highway and Burnett Street. Motorists are experiencing long delays, with traffic backing up over 12 kilometres. Drivers are advised to avoid the area and consider using alternative routes, as congestion is significant not only on the M4 but also on diversion routes including the Great Western Highway. For those heading citybound, routes such as the M7 to the M2 or M5 are recommended to circumvent the delays.

The investigation continues as police work to ascertain more details surrounding this unfortunate incident.
