A school in Melbourne’s south-west went into lockdown this morning after a group of individuals allegedly fled onto its grounds from a stolen Porsche. The incident began around 10:50 am when police were alerted to the erratic driving of the vehicle near Fraser Rise. The car was tracked to Manor Lakes, where it was abandoned on the premises of Manor Lakes P-12 College.
Witnesses reported that five occupants exited the car and ran into the school, with at least one reportedly armed with a sharp-edged weapon. In response, the school initiated lockdown procedures for around an hour to ensure the safety of students and staff. Despite the tense situation, a student recounted seeing police officers tackling one of the suspects to the ground amidst the chaos during recess when they received the lockdown announcement, which indicated it was not a drill. “There was a lot of fear going around,” the student remarked.
Fortunately, three of the alleged offenders have since been apprehended, but two remain at large. A spokesperson for the Department of Education confirmed that safety protocols were activated during the incident, reassuring that all students and staff were unharmed, and normal operations resumed shortly thereafter. Authorities are urging anyone with information, including CCTV or dashcam footage of the event, to contact Crime Stoppers.
