A disturbing arrest took place outside a youth centre in Melbourne’s northern suburbs last night, as captured on video. Police were summoned to Motto Drive in Coolaroo shortly before 6pm after reports emerged of an armed individual behaving erratically near the Hume Islamic Youth Centre.
Upon arrival, officers attempted to stop a white Toyota SUV parked in the area. The situation escalated when the driver exited the vehicle holding a knife, prompting police action. To subdue the man, law enforcement deployed a Taser.
Footage shows the chaotic moments that followed, with officers wrestling the man to the ground post-taser. In a rather shocking display, some bystanders were seen kicking him while others threw a shopping trolley in his direction. The alleged weapon, believed to have been wrested from the suspect, was identifiable in the recording.
Authorities have since conducted an interview with a 43-year-old man from Craigieburn regarding the incident, although no charges have been filed at this time. Police have indicated their belief that the occurrence was not motivated by religious sentiments.
