There seems to be ongoing tension between the Western Bulldogs and their former executive, Chris Grant, following their contentious parting eight months ago. According to reports from Nine’s chief football journalist, Tom Morris, Grant was notably absent from the club’s centenary gala held at Whitten Oval, marking his second missed event in connection with the club’s 100-year celebrations.

During this significant event, the club unveiled its list of the top 25 Bulldogs players over the past century, with the greatest of all time, EJ ‘Ted’ Whitten, taking the top spot. Current AFL captain Marcus Bontempelli was recognized as the second greatest, while Grant ranked third among the top five, which also included Gary Dempsey and Doug Hawkins.

Chris Grant, who has dedicated over three decades to the Bulldogs as both a player and an administrator, resigned last year from his role as executive football manager. His departure came on the heels of a deteriorating relationship with the senior coach, Luke Beveridge. In his resignation statement, Grant acknowledged the challenges he faced in making the decision but expressed confidence in the club’s future, stating, “I leave knowing the club is in a great position to succeed.”

The Bulldogs have encountered difficulties this season, struggling to secure a place in the top eight. Grant’s absence from the round two gala at the MCG and now from Monday’s event raises questions about the current state of his relationship with the club.

Furthermore, acknowledging his ongoing association with the Bulldogs, Luke Beveridge recently extended his contract until 2027, adding another layer to the dynamics within the club following Grant’s exit.
