A recent car meet in Melbourne turned chaotic as hundreds of car enthusiasts flooded the city’s famous Chapel Street, prompting a heavy police response. The disturbances began around 7pm, with reports of reckless driving and significant traffic congestion flooding in. Eyewitness footage captured the wild scene, where drivers engaged in dangerous stunts such as burnouts, resulting in the temporary closure of part of the iconic strip.

The gathering reportedly originated in Port Melbourne, where more than 600 participants initially congregated before moving to Chapel Street. Authorities became aware of the planned large-scale “high-risk driving activity,” leading to increased police presence in the area.

During the turmoil, a tow truck drew a large crowd, with many onlookers attempting to climb onto the vehicle. In response to the dangerous behaviour, police issued infringement notices to several drivers involved in hooning activities and served defect notices for modified vehicles. To combat the disruption and improve traffic flow, temporary road closures were enacted.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about hooning and reckless driving in urban areas, prompting authorities to remain vigilant in managing such gatherings.
