In Queensland, a tragic multi-vehicle accident has claimed the lives of three teenagers, according to police reports. The collision involved a Mazda 2 and a Great Wall Cannon, occurring at approximately 10:40 PM on Mackay Ring Road in Glenella.
Initial investigations suggest that the Mazda was attempting to overtake a semi-trailer while travelling south, when it collided head-on with the Great Wall Cannon, which was moving in the opposite direction. The impact was devastating, resulting in the fatalities of two 19-year-old boys and one 19-year-old girl who were passengers in the Mazda.
The 29-year-old driver of the Great Wall Cannon sustained serious injuries and was taken to Mackay Base Hospital for treatment. Fortunately, the 68-year-old semi-trailer driver emerged from the incident unscathed, and the occupants of a fourth vehicle, an Isuzu D-Max, managed to avoid injury by swerving away from the accident scene.
The Mackay Forensic Crash Unit (FCU) is currently conducting an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event. The community mourns the loss of the young victims as they await further details from authorities.
