A tragic incident in western Sydney has been labelled a “cowardly act” after a driver struck a six-year-old boy riding his e-scooter and then fled the scene. The accident took place on Musgrove Crescent in Doonside while the child was enjoying his school holidays. Witnesses described the moment when a white Toyota Camry collided with the young boy, leaving him injured in the gutter.
Ian Maclean and his son Steve witnessed the entire event while they were fixing a car outside their home. They reported that the driver briefly stopped to check on the child, expressing remorse and stating he didn’t see him before quickly driving away. Ian expressed his disbelief, questioning how the driver could miss seeing the boy.
The six-year-old, who lives nearby, is currently receiving treatment at Sydney Children’s Hospital in Westmead for multiple injuries, including fractures to his legs and hip, in addition to head trauma. His family remains by his side as they navigate this harrowing situation, with the local community rallying around them for support.
Residents of the area believe they may be familiar with the driver, suggesting he could be a local. The police have since launched an investigation and are actively searching for the man and a female passenger who was in the vehicle at the time of the incident. The community’s shock and concern over the reckless behaviour displayed in this hit and run are palpable, highlighting the urgent need for responsibility on the roads.
