The operator of multiple childcare centres, G8 Education, is set to implement CCTV across all its facilities following serious allegations against Joshua Dale Brown, a 26-year-old employee. Brown faces 70 charges related to child sexual abuse involving eight alleged victims at a Melbourne centre known as Creative Gardens Early Learning, where he worked between April 2022 and January 2023.

The situation has resulted in a significant decline in G8 Education’s stock, dropping by 20% since the charges were announced. In addition, many parents are reportedly contemplating legal actions against the childcare giant, with one law firm already assisting a parent in filing a lawsuit for damages. More than 100 additional parents have sought legal advice regarding the incidents.

In light of the distressing nature of the allegations, G8’s managing director, Pejman Okhovat, expressed that the company is horrified and appalled by the claims. He has engaged in discussions with affected families in Victoria and affirmed the company’s commitment to cooperating with law enforcement and government authorities. Okhovat described the allegations as “deeply disturbing” and extended his condolences to the victims and their families, expressing his regret for the suffering endured.

Furthermore, G8 Education is advocating for national registries that record the employment history of individuals working with vulnerable people, including teachers and childcare workers. The aim is to establish uniform regulations across the sector to enhance safety within childcare environments.

G8 Education’s proactive measures include the rapid rollout of CCTV following a successful trial at selected centres. Brown’s alleged offences are part of an ongoing investigation concerning his conduct at 19 additional childcare centres where he was employed between 2017 and 2025. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on September 15, with no indication yet of how he intends to respond to the charges.

This troubling incident has prompted a state inquiry, sparking national discussions on improving safety standards in the burgeoning childcare sector.
