Two teenagers have been taken into custody following the alleged theft of a car from a shopping centre car park and a subsequent police chase from Logan to Pimpama on the Gold Coast. The incident involved a Mazda 3, reported stolen from Logan Central in Browns Plains, occurring between 7 pm and 8 pm the previous evening.

The stolen vehicle was later observed driving recklessly along the Pacific Motorway, reaching speeds of up to 180 km/h, before exiting at Yatala. In response, police deployed spike strips at Pimpama shortly before 10 pm, but the Mazda continued its flight until eventually coming to a halt on Mimbeena Drive in Ormeau. Upon stopping, two individuals—a young boy and a young man—allegedly attempted to flee the scene.

The authorities apprehended both the 14-year-old boy from Logan Central and an 18-year-old man shortly after, with assistance from a police dog squad. The younger suspect has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and driving without a licence. He is expected to appear in the Southport Children’s Court.

The 18-year-old from Alberton faces charges of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possession of dangerous drugs, with an appearance set for Southport Magistrates Court on July 17.
