Tragedy struck Chicago’s River North neighbourhood late Wednesday, resulting in four fatalities due to gunshot wounds, while an additional 14 individuals were taken to hospital, with at least three reported in critical condition, according to police sources.
The incident occurred outside a restaurant and lounge known for hosting a recent album release party for a rapper. Eyewitnesses reported that gunfire erupted when an assailant fired into a crowd before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
Police have confirmed that no arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing. Among the victims, 13 women and five men, aged between 21 and 32, were shot. The deceased included two men and two women, highlighting the tragic toll of this violent event.
Victims were transported to various hospitals across the city for treatment, with a spokesperson from Northwestern Medicine stating that multiple patients were being evaluated in their emergency department. However, details regarding the total number of hospitalised individuals and their conditions have not yet been disclosed.
This incident has heightened concerns about gun violence in urban areas and sparked a call for further investigations by law enforcement.
