Security cameras captured a dramatic high-speed collision involving a family of five in Sydney’s Inner West last night.

A 28-year-old man has been charged with several offences, including driving under the influence and dangerous driving, following the crash on King Street in Newtown around 7pm. Reports state that his black MG SUV collided with a Mercedes driven by a 43-year-old man.

The accident resulted in minor injuries for all five occupants of the Mercedes, which included a 67-year-old woman, a 42-year-old woman, and two children aged nine and twelve. They were swiftly transported to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment.

CCTV footage showed the MG speeding along King Street before the impact. The severe crash caused significant disruption on the busy road as emergency services arrived to assist those involved.

Upon police arrival, the driver of the MG was detained and treated at the scene before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for further assessment and mandatory testing. He has since had his driving privileges suspended and is scheduled to appear in court on 4 August.

In addition, a 20-year-old male passenger from the MG was arrested after allegedly trying to obstruct the police as they conducted their investigation. He was subsequently taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he is accused of assaulting a police officer.

Authorities are calling for anyone with additional information or dashcam footage of the incident to reach out to Inner West Police Area Command or Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
