Man Dies Following Alleged Late-Night Burnout Incident in Hunter Valley

A man has been charged in connection with a tragic incident that occurred in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales, where a driver performing a burnout hit and killed a bystander over the weekend.

Emergency services responded to reports of the accident on a fire trail off Haul Road in Stockrington, located about 22 kilometres southeast of Kurri Kurri, shortly after midnight on Saturday. Witness accounts indicate that the driver was engaging in burnouts when the vehicle collided with three spectators, after which the driver fled the scene.

Unfortunately, a 53-year-old man suffered severe head injuries from the impact and succumbed shortly thereafter. Additionally, police were informed that two women were also struck by the vehicle but they left the scene before authorities arrived.

Later, around 2:40 am on Sunday, officers discovered a burnt-out car on McFarlanes Road, which was subsequently confiscated for forensic analysis.

On Sunday evening, at approximately 5:30 pm, a 22-year-old man was apprehended and charged with several offences, including dangerous driving causing death. He has been denied bail and is scheduled to appear in court today.
