Police have confiscated more than 100 kilograms of methamphetamine during a raid on an illicit drug laboratory in western Sydney. This operation was triggered by intelligence from US border force authorities, who discovered 27 kilograms of meth, valued at approximately $25 million, concealed in blankets en route to Australia.

Last year, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) conducted two prior raids in Cabramatta and Canley Vale that eventually led them to the suspected drug lab located in Fairfield East. On June 19, investigators executed a search warrant at the Fairfield East property, unearthing a fully operational clandestine lab.

Authorities dismantled the facility and seized significant quantities of meth-related materials, including 77 kilograms of drug-laden substances, 39 kilograms of pre-manufactured meth, and 35 kilograms of a liquid thought to contain meth. In addition, over 600 litres of waste material and various electronic devices were seized.

Currently, no arrests have been made as investigations into the alleged criminal syndicate are still ongoing. AFP Detective Superintendent Morgen Blunden highlighted that criminal organisations nationwide are driven solely by greed and profit, disregarding the considerable harm that illicit drugs inflict upon the Australian community.

Blunden commended the AFP members involved in the investigations, praising their dedication and professionalism. He also expressed gratitude towards the New South Wales Police, particularly the Drug & Firearms Squad Chemical Operations team, for their expert assistance in the case.
