The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is currently providing consular support to three Australians apprehended in Bali in relation to the shooting of two men from Melbourne. The incident occurred on June 14 at a luxury villa in Canggu, resulting in the death of Zivan Radmanovic and injuries to his companion, Sanar Ghanim.

DFAT’s assistance includes monitoring the men’s welfare while in custody, liaising with local authorities about their conditions, and maintaining communication with their families. Notably, one of the suspects, 37-year-old Tupou Pasa Midolmore, was reportedly arrested by Australian Federal Police at Melbourne Airport after allegedly attempting to flee Indonesia.

Another suspect, Darcy Francesco Jenson, also aged 37, was taken into custody in Jakarta on June 17 while allegedly trying to escape to Cambodia. Additionally, a third individual, Coskun Mevlut, 23, was arrested in Singapore around the same time. Midolmore was later brought back to Bali after his arrest overseas.

Indonesian authorities have acted on the case by seizing six motorbikes and two getaway cars believed to have been involved in the crime. They also confiscated various items from the scene, including bullets, a bag, a passport, cash, and a sledgehammer, all pivotal to the ongoing investigation.

If convicted, the Australian suspects could be charged with premeditated murder, a serious offence in Indonesia that carries a potential penalty of death by firing squad. Meanwhile, Australian authorities have clarified that they are not involved in the investigation led by Indonesian police.
