Over 100 Australians and their family members have successfully evacuated Tel Aviv on a humanitarian flight, prompted by escalating tensions in the Middle East. This operation was supported by the Australian Defence Force, which facilitated the safe departure of 119 individuals as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to assist Australians seeking to leave the conflict zone.

In light of the ongoing 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel, Australians in both nations have been registering with their government for assistance. The flight from Tel Aviv marks a significant step in the government’s commitment to help its citizens, with photos released showing the emotional departure of Australians being assisted by government officials, including Ralph King, Australia’s ambassador to Israel.

The Australian government is actively continuing its efforts to help others still in the region find opportunities to leave safely. Recently, airspace in Israel reopened, allowing for commercial flights to resume, albeit with certain limitations.

Authorities have advised Australians who hold tickets for previously cancelled flights to maintain communication with their airlines, as it could provide a quicker route to reaching their destinations.

Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong acknowledged the challenges faced by many Australians currently in Iran and Israel, expressing sympathy for their circumstances and the anxiety experienced by their families back home. To further support Australians in these regions, consular staff have been stationed at the Iran-Azerbaijan border to assist those seeking to exit.

For urgent consular help, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has encouraged individuals to reach out to its 24-hour Consular Emergency Centre via the international number +61 2 6261 3305, or within Australia at 1300 555 135.

As the situation develops, the government remains focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad amidst ongoing unrest.
