In a significant address to the nation, President Donald Trump announced that the United States has conducted airstrikes on Iran, targeting key nuclear enrichment sites at Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz. Trump described the operation as a “spectacular military success,” claiming that Iran’s nuclear capabilities were “completely obliterated.” He stated that the primary aim of the attacks was to halt Iran’s enrichment facilities and to address its status as the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism.
Following the announcement on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump expressed optimism that this would lead to peace in the region, urging Iran, often referred to by him as the “bully of the Middle East,” to seek reconciliation. He conveyed his hope that no additional military engagements would be necessary, while also acknowledging the potential for more targeted actions if peace were not achieved quickly, emphasizing that “many targets” remained.
In his address, Trump extended his congratulations to the US military for the operation and to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his collaboration in the strikes. He reiterated the challenges faced during this mission, labelling it one of the most complex and lethal, but maintained a firm stance on Iran, warning of consequences if peace negotiations did not progress.
Towards the conclusion of his speech, Trump made a poignant acknowledgment, thanking God and imploring divine protection for the military. He announced plans for the Secretary of Defence to hold a press briefing at the Pentagon the following morning. His address ended with a heartfelt invocation for blessings for the Middle East, Israel, and America, reflecting a mix of combative confidence and hope for a peaceful resolution.
Reports from Iranian state media confirmed that the Fordow facility had indeed come under attack, marking a critical escalation in US-Iran tensions. Iranian officials acknowledged the strikes shortly after they were publicised by Trump, indicating a potential for retaliatory measures in the wake of this aggressive military action.
