South Sydney Rabbitohs have faced a setback in their efforts to return to Allianz Stadium for next season, as the NSW Government has denied their request. Despite gathering nearly 15,000 signatures on an online petition advocating for the move, the government remains firm on the existing agreement that requires the Rabbitohs to host their home games at Accor Stadium.
In a response shared via social media, CEO Blake Solly expressed that this is far from the end of their campaign to relocate to Moore Park. He mentioned that they plan to review the rejection letter from Minister Stephen Kamper and will explore their options moving forward.
The Rabbitohs have affirmed their determination with a resolute message: “The fight’s not over. We’re not backing down.” Historically, the club shifted to Accor Stadium two decades ago for financial reasons, but now they aim to share Allianz Stadium with rivals Sydney Roosters, citing various motivations for the change.
Concerns raised in the petition highlight the lack of atmosphere at Accor Stadium and its inconvenient location, over 30 kilometres from their community hubs in Redfern and Maroubra. The club also expressed dissatisfaction with the NSW Government, alleging that it has failed to deliver on promised upgrades that were included in the original contract for playing at Accor.
The Rabbitohs are committed to continuing discussions with officials about their venue situation, seeking a solution that better serves the club and its passionate supporters.
