Human remains discovered in Good Night Scrub National Park have been confirmed as those of 17-year-old Pheobe Bishop, a Bundaberg teenager who went missing on May 15. The remains were located on June 6 during an extensive search in the park’s dense bushland. Investigations revealed that Pheobe was expected to fly to Western Australia to visit her boyfriend but never checked in for her flight.

Just one day before the identification of the remains, two of Pheobe’s housemates, James Wood and Tanika Bromley, were charged with her murder, along with two counts of interfering with a corpse. Homicide detectives had already suspected the remains were Pheobe’s, but needed forensic testing for confirmation.

Prior searches suggested that Pheobe’s body might have been relocated multiple times within and around the national park. Multiple crime scenes were established, including her residence in Gin Gin and the grey Hyundai driven by her housemates. Evidence indicates that on the day she disappeared, Pheobe was in the Hyundai, which was seen near Bundaberg Regional Airport; however, no one exited the vehicle.

While police investigation is ongoing, the potential motive behind the alleged murder has not been disclosed, nor has the cause of death been confirmed. Further details around whether her luggage was recovered remain unclear. Authorities are actively searching for additional items pertaining to the case and are encouraging the public to come forward with any information regarding Pheobe or the movements of the grey Hyundai IX35 in the Gin Gin area during the week preceding her disappearance.
