Former US President Donald Trump has called for a complete evacuation of Tehran, Iran’s capital, amidst escalating tensions with Israel. In a post on Truth Social, he expressed disappointment that Iran did not accept what he termed a crucial agreement, asserting that the situation represents a tragic waste of life. Trump reiterated his long-standing position that Iran must not possess nuclear weapons, a stance he has vocalised repeatedly.
He urged, “Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!” This call coincides with heightened military actions, including Israeli missile strikes aimed at locations associated with Iran’s nuclear program, which have disrupted planned discussions between the US and Iran scheduled for the coming weekend.
Trump’s administration previously withdrew from the Obama-era nuclear deal with Iran in 2018, and since then, he has sought to negotiate a new agreement. Despite his earlier preference for a diplomatic resolution, Trump acknowledged Israel’s military response, stating he had hoped for an attack-free environment to facilitate the negotiations.
The White House has underscored its unwavering support for Israel during this recent conflict, signalling a firm stance amid the ongoing strife. The situation remains tense as the geopolitical landscape continues to evolve.
